The Shadow of the Wind

I recently finished reading the book by Carlos Ruiz Zafon called 'The Shadow of the Wind', and I find it fascinating how the book taught me better English even though it had been translated from Spanish. The story was about a boy called Daniel 1933, lived in Barcelona who discovered this book: The Shadow of the Wind by Julian Carax. He began his curiosity in finding the truth behind his life and death, and becoming involved solving this mysterious crime and rumours he hide. As the story goes Julian's secret life has reflected on Daniel's personal existence, their loved ones. I was influenced by his beautiful words and plot containing such twists and wit. It was the best book I've ever read. Carlos Ruiz Zafon is Spanish, he won many awards for his novels and this book has been translated in 30 languages! I'm very much looking forward to his new book called 'The Angel's Game' released by the 1st of June. It has improved my English and I found the story very interesting.

Interview with Romina

Thursday 6th of March, my very first interview for a placement, I was very excited to meet Romina and so grateful! I dressed myself in white jacket, a pair of jeans and white heels. I was hoping to make a good impression. When I first arrived in London, I went straight to London Bridge to visit Hussein Chalayan exhibition, and it was such a beautiful day out. I couldn't help myself smiling all day and stay positive about getting this placement, and I have no doubt about it. I stop for lunch at Pret and met a nice counter, he generously gave away free miso soup. I was in a positive all day.

I start wondering about the book I read few days ago, 'Persuasion: the art of influencing people' by James Bogg. I do remembered all the things that this book taught me; important while you're in the interview is shining your enthusiasm personality. I manage visit Hussein Chalayan's exhibition before interview, it was an amazing experience to be close to one of world top fashion designer's work. I was blessed.

I finally arrived in London field at 3:45pm but the interview start at 4pm. Romina herself look fantastic, and she was nicely welcomed. Her studio look very nice and professional, full of pictures and inspiration. We sat down on red comfy sofa and we start to look at my portfolio. She commented that she likes my drawings, my modelling, and electric sport jacket: especially digital print underneath. I showed her my technifile fill with illustration, working drawing, pattern pieces, and she likes it. She ask me general question about who are my favourite designers and who like the least. It reminded me when I had Fiona interviewed me at University of Derby; I was full of excitement and enjoy talking, and pretend I already been offer a place which later I did! I was in the same good vibe when Romina interviewed me. At the end she told me that likes me and that's a good feedback!

My portfolio

I tried to reoganise my portfolio and I updated my recent works such as jersey project. It seem that I have so many good work from textile than fashion but that is what I felt it look the strongest. I remembered Fiona's tip, put the best work at first and also the last; it capture audience attention better and make sense.
I'm very proud of my portfolio. Here my link:

Begin placement search!

I was inspired by Janet's speech about her work experience and jobs in fashion industries. I enjoyed listening to her appreciation at work that is full of excitement and interesting people she met like Vivienne Westwood. One time Vivienne shout at her and she's still frantic about it.

I start to send out loads of CV for Matthew Williamson, ITV recruitment, Style Shake, The independent, The Sunday Times, and many more. I only research work experience in London, Derby, and Norwich; where it close to home. London is quite further away personally but I do have a few friends live there. I always wanted a job in London and it's hard when you can not stay with a friend for long enough, so I was hoping to find one there and stay for 4 weeks.
